Toshiba issues 'going concern' warning while booking $4.81bn loss

Nine-month numbers delivered unaudited; chief vows to log annual results on time

SHOTARO TANI, Nikkei staff writer | Japan

TOKYO -- Toshiba said late on Tuesday that it suffered a net loss of 532.5 billion yen ($4.81 billion) for the April-December period of last year, leaving it with a negative net worth of 225.7 billion yen. The financial statement, for the first time, also mentioned uncertainty over the Japanese conglomerate's future as a "going concern."

"There are material events that raise substantial doubt about the company's ability to continue," Toshiba said.
