Japan to send foreign minister to Trump's inauguration

TOKYO -- Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya will attend U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20, Nikkei has learned.

Iwaya will be the first Japanese cabinet member at the swearing-in of any U.S. president, according to a source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here. Traditionally, the inauguration is attended by various nations' ambassadors to the U.S. Trump's camp extended the invitation to Iwaya.
