WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump nominated national security adviser Mike Waltz to be ambassador to the United Nations on Thursday, tapping Secretary of State Marco Rubio as his interim replacement. Rubio will double as the top diplomat.

The de facto demotion and the reported resignation of Waltz's deputy, Alex Wong, are likely to have implications for Asia policy because both are known as China hawks.
