WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday that Nippon Steel will invest in U.S. Steel and give up on making an outright purchase of the company.

Nippon Steel "is going to be doing something very exciting about U.S. Steel," Trump told reporters after a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. "They've agreed to invest heavily in U.S. Steel as opposed to own it."
