TOKYO -- Millions in Japan have joined the ranks of on-demand "spot workers," helping to keep understaffed restaurants, convenience stores and hotels going in a country increasingly tolerant of second jobs.
Armed with smartphone apps that find them openings, spot workers sign up to work for an employer for as little as a single shift.
