SINGAPORE -- As tourists return, Singapore is casting a wider net for workers to support its understaffed service sector.

People from Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand became eligible on Friday for a permit in Singapore to work in one of nine occupations.
