SINGAPORE -- Companies hiring foreign professionals in Singapore next year will need to pay them higher minimum salaries to qualify for work visas, a move that could affect global businesses that plan to send expats to the regional economic hub.
In January, the minimum monthly salary for a new applicant to obtain what is known as an employment pass will be raised to 5,600 Singapore dollars ($4,200), up from the current SG$5,000, Manpower Minister Tan See Leng said in parliament on Monday.
