TOKYO -- Sony Group and Renesas Electronics are among the growing number of Japanese companies providing employees with restricted stock as part of their compensation, Nikkei has learned, as they fight for specialized talent in an increasingly competitive global market.

These moves come as the number of Japanese businesses offering stock-based compensation has grown about 10-fold over the past five years.
