MONDAY
Philippines probe into Duterte's drug war
Philippine senators begin a closely watched investigation into former President Rodrigo Duterte's controversial war on drugs. The policy began when he was elected in 2016 and by some estimates led to the killing of as many as 30,000 Filipinos. An investigation by congressional lawmakers has recently confirmed a bounty system for police that directly linked Duterte's allies, including two sitting senators, to the violent campaign.
ADB gets a new boss
The Asian Development Bank elects a new president, with only one candidate in the running. Masato Kanda, Japan's former currency czar who recently was responsible for trying to prop up the yen, was cherry-picked to succeed Masatsugu Asakawa. Japan has dominated the position since the multilateral lender was established in the mid-1960s.
Global Management Dialogue in Tokyo
Nikkei and a Swiss business school host the Global Management Dialogue, an annual business forum. Business leaders, including the vice president of U.S. chipmaker Nvidia and top executives from South Korean automaker Hyundai, will join to discuss technology and innovation.

Europe tariffs on China EVs
The European Commission is expected to publish its final disclosure for planned import duties on China-made electric vehicles, after the 27-nation European Union voted this month in favor of the additional levies. Once implemented, the measures would be in force for five years and be extendable upon review.
Japan earnings on tap
Japan kicks off its latest earnings season with Hitachi, Mitsubishi Motors and others publishing their quarterly results. Panasonic Holdings, ANA Holdings and Mitsubishi Corp. are also on deck to report.
Australia inflation
The Australian Bureau of Statistics releases its consumer price index indicator for the third quarter. Unlike peers in North America and Europe, Australia's central bank has kept interest rates elevated as inflation proves sticky in the country of 27 million, prompting debate over its impact on already lagging economic growth.

THURSDAY
India's festival of lights
India celebrates Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, with people splurging on a range of gifts, including chocolates, traditional sweets, dry fruits and household goods. By one estimate, Diwali-driven consumer spending in Indian cities could touch 1.85 trillion rupees ($22 billion) in the nearly two months leading up to the Hindu festival, which is celebrated on Thursday and Friday.
BOJ meeting
The Bank of Japan holds a two-day meeting that wraps up Thursday. Despite the weak yen, monetary policy is expected to remain steady, owing to heightened global uncertainties including Middle East tensions and the tight U.S. presidential race. BOJ Gov. Kazuo Ueda is expected to speak to the media after the policy announcement.
