This week, the region's national leaders will be busy engaging in diplomacy. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. begins a visit to Japan on Wednesday as Manila seeks to strengthen its ties with Tokyo. Chris Hipkins, New Zealand's new prime minister, will visit Canberra to meet his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, while Malaysia's Anwar Ibrahim will visit Thailand, the latest in a string of official trips Anwar is making to other Southeast Asian nations.
