AI-infused systems to take over repetitive jobs

Bosch shows off a robot that can operate alongside humans at a trade show in Hannover, Germany.

HANNOVER, Germany -- Artificial intelligence took center stage at the Hannover Messe 2017 trade show that opened Monday, with many manufacturers showing how systems crunch data gathered via the "internet of things" to predict breakdowns and optimize production.

Autoparts behemoth Robert Bosch group exhibited a hybrid assembly line where humans and robots work together. This helps to address labor shortages in such countries as Germany and Japan, Bosch executive Stefan Assmann explained.
