TOKYO -- SBI Holdings will open a research facility Oct. 1 focusing on financial technology, or fintech, aiming to promote development in an area where Japan lags.
The Japanese financial services company will tap Keio University professor emeritus Heizo Takenaka and Tsutomu Fujita, former Citigroup Global Markets Japan vice chairman, to head the center. Researchers will include experienced personnel from companies such as Sony Financial Holdings and Microsoft Japan. The facility will handle research for both academic and practical applications.
