Japan's social gaming giant betting on self-driving car

The self-driving taxi under development by DeNA and ZMP.

TOKYO -- The race to put a self-driving car on the road is now joined by Japanese social gaming giant DeNA, which seeks to use its software development and information technology prowess to pave the way for new fields of services.

Robot Taxi, a joint venture owned by the company and Tokyo-based robotics startup ZMP, began a road test Monday for a driverless taxi service in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture. The prefecture is part of the Tokyo-area strategic zone designated by the government.
