KUMAMOTO, Japan -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC), the world's largest semiconductor contract manufacturer, will begin operating and shipping from its plant in Kumamoto prefecture by the end of 2024.
Japanese companies like Sony Group are also setting up new production and R&D facilities in the prefecture. The local economy is booming, and new residential and commercial facilities are springing up.
However, there is a serious labor shortage that could affect the revival of Japan's semiconductor industry. Universities and technical colleges are racing to find a solution.
