Indonesia's 'killing season' remains a mystery 50 years on

It was a night depicted in the 1982 film "The Year of Living Dangerously" -- as proclaimed by a reckless president of a country in economic free fall. Truckloads of soldiers rumbled through the dimly lit streets of Jakarta. They hauled six army generals out of their homes, killing the three who put up a fight and, executing the others back at a camp in a rubber plantation.
