CHANDIGARH, India -- After serving the Indian Air Force for over six decades, the Soviet-origin MiG-21 fighter was formally retired on Friday, paving the way for the country's indigenously developed advanced light combat aircraft -- which is expected to replace the iconic combat jet -- and for possible procurement from overseas.
