  <p>In the press shop of VinFast's auto plant in the northern Vietnamese city of Haiphong, machines work nonstop, turning metal sheets into panels that will become part of an electric car.<br>Next door, 1,200 ABB robots assemble chassis, roofs, hoods and doors as the vehicles take shape, a process the company says is 98% automated. Nearby, workers put on the final touches, preparing the cars for shipment.</p><p>Around 18,000 people work 24/7 to make EVs at the plant, which itself was built in just 21 months on what was once swampland in a fishing village. It is part of a vast complex that stands behind Vietnam's first and only EV brand.</p><p>"We took two years of partnership with BMW to learn how to build a car, and then to get people [familiar with] us. And then, after two years, we stopped production of (internal) combustion engine cars and switched over to EVs," said Le Ngoc Anh, director of VinFast's Haiphong plant.</p>
