YOKOSUKA, Japan -- Nissan has been a fixture in the seaside city of Yokosuka since 1961, when the automaker opened Japan's first full-scale integrated vehicle assembly plant in the small Oppama area facing Tokyo bay. The company's July announcement that the factory will stop making vehicles by March 2028 has left residents reeling.
