NIIGATA, Japan -- The export of nishikigoi, or Japanese ornamental carp, to China is expected to resume after being effectively suspended since November 2023, as China has now approved six carp farms in Japan as quarantine facilities -- including four in Niigata prefecture. While each farm will resume shipments once preparations are complete, the screening and facility inspection requirements set by China have led some firms to forgo export plans.
