TOKYO/NEW YORK -- Japan's Nippon Steel is embarking on huge investments in its new subsidiary U.S. Steel, hoping to weather stiff competition from U.S. and South Korean rivals as U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs put downward pressure on earnings.
