Taiwan's UMC to build $5bn chip plant in Singapore

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's United Microelectronics Corp. on Thursday announced plans to spend $5 billion to expand its chip production capacity in Singapore as the world's fourth largest contract chipmaker looks to help clients overcome the ongoing global chip crunch.
