TSMC files legal counter strike against struggling US-based rival

Taiwanese chip titan has accused Globalfoundries of violating 25 patents

Hsinchu, Taiwan-based TSMC is the world's largest contract chipmaker, controlling nearly half the global market and supplying all major chip developers including Apple, Huawei Technologies and Qualcomm.

TAIPEI -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has launched retaliatory legal action against struggling U.S.-based rival Globalfoundries as it moves to protect its position as the world's largest contract chipmaker.
