TOKYO -- Japan's average monthly wage dropped 3.0% in inflation-adjusted real terms in April from a year earlier, marking the 13th straight month of decline, labor ministry data shows.

The decline in April compares with a fall of 2.3% in March and demonstrates that recent wage increases were too modest to offset persistent inflation.
