TOKYO -- Part-time employment has been increasing in Japan over the last quarter century, a trend hindering strong growth in wages and prompting calls for legislative action to improve the treatment of those workers.
The country had 21.01 million non-regular workers in 2022, up roughly 260,000 from a year earlier, according to the government's labor force survey, with regular employees increasing just 10,000 to 35.88 million.
