WASHINGTON -- The trade agreements U.S. President Donald Trump signed with Malaysia and Cambodia on his Asia trip diverge significantly from earlier deals with Japan, the European Union and the U.K. by replacing investment commitments with politically charged provisions -- such as export controls, sanctions and fees aligned with U.S. standards -- framed as efforts to enhance economic security.
