TOKYO -- The mutual defense obligations under the U.S.-Japan security alliance should be extended beyond Japanese territories to cover Guam, Katsutoshi Kawano, a former chief of Japan's Self-Defense Forces, told Nikkei on Thursday, commenting on President Donald Trump's criticism that the bilateral defense pact is unfair.
