Daim Zainuddin, Mahathir confidante who navigated financial crises

TOKYO -- Daim Zainuddin, Malaysia's former economic czar who guided the country through financial crises and whose attempts to nurture Malay capitalists led to government bailouts, died on Nov. 13 at the age of 86.
