TAIPEI Key iPhone assembler Hon Hai Precision Industry is considering investing more than $7 billion jointly with Apple to build a highly automated display panel production facility in the U.S., according to Chairman Terry Gou.

"Apple is willing to invest in the facility together because they need the [panels] as well," Gou told reporters in Taipei following an annual company party on Jan. 22. The U.S. production site would eventually create 30,000 to 50,000 jobs, he said.
