ASEAN must quickly launch Myanmar envoy mission to halt violence

Group's decision to mediate conflict is a welcome change in noninterference principle

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations has agreed to send a special envoy to Myanmar to find a way out of the bloodshed there. With the rest of the international community deadlocked over how to respond to the Feb. 1 coup, this is a step in the right direction. We hope that all parties will quickly put this plan into action.
