Missile tech flows to North Korea disguised as academic research

TOKYO -- Since 2022, North Korea has conducted more than 80 test launches of ballistic and other missiles. United Nations sanctions restrict missile and other military technology transfers from other countries to North Korea, but the country's military development continues unabated.

North Korea is suspected of acquiring military technology through joint efforts with researchers outside the country.

Analysis of data on academic papers has raised suspicions that North Korea is openly importing missile technology, mainly from China, under the guise of academic exchange.
