SURABAYA, Indonesia -- On Aug. 29, at the height of Indonesia's recent wave of deadly unrest, Jakarta native Benny Prawira spent a restless night at home in the capital's eastern Kemayoran district. The air in his neighborhood was stifling, awash with tear gas as security personnel clashed with protesters nearby. The mood in his house was wary.
