WASHINGTON -- The U.S. needs a collective defense pact in Asia, and it should start with fellow "Squad" nations Japan, Australia and the Philippines, a former assistant secretary of defense for Indo-Pacific security affairs in the Biden administrationĀ told Nikkei Asia.
