BEIJING -- Senior Japanese and Chinese foreign ministry officials met Tuesday in Beijing to discuss the controversy over Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent comments on Taiwan, but emerged without real progress in a sign that the diplomatic spat could persist.
