MAUNGDAW, Myanmar -- There was plenty of evidence of chaos and destruction on a recent visit to the village of Pan Taw Pyin in Maungdaw district, in Myanmar's northern Rakhine State. Heaps of smashed wood and ash lay scattered all around. Little more than the remains of the foundations of houses suggested that people used to live here. Police armed with rifles stood guard.
