TOKYO -- Shinjiro Koizumi is running for the leadership of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, trying not only to become the country's youngest postwar leader but also to turn around the fortunes of a once-dominant party struggling to hold on to power after losing its parliamentary majority.
