TOKYO -- The leader of the largest opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (CDP) is scrambling to assemble a coalition to prevent Liberal Democratic Party leader Sanae Takaichi from becoming prime minister, urging the fellow opposition Democratic Party for the People to come to the negotiating table.
