Former senior minister Tharman among four hopefuls vying for ceremonial post

SINGAPORE -- Singapore will hold its presidential election on Sept. 1, the elections department announced on Friday, after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong signed off on a poll for the largely ceremonial post.
