A smaller Japan should aim for bigger global role as 'network power'

TOKYO -- Japan and the U.S. will soon hold elections that will determine the direction of each country. The U.S. appears on track to continue on its inward-looking trajectory no matter which presidential candidate wins, albeit to a lesser or greater degree depending on the victor.
