COLOMBO/TOKYO -- Plastic pellet spills, a phenomenon little understood but disproportionately harmful to ecosystems and human health, are becoming an alarmingly frequent consequence of modern maritime accidents, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, which now accounts for nearly half of the world's trade of the chemical particles.
