Welcome to Nikkei Asia

New name reflects shift to digital news focus

    SHIGESABURO OKUMURA, Editor-in-chief, Nikkei Asia

    Dear Readers,

I'm very excited to announce that, starting today, Nikkei Asian Review will be known as Nikkei Asia. As you read our website or news app, you may notice a few changes, including a fresh logo and our bold new slogan: "The Voice of the Asian Century."

What hasn't changed is our determination to be the world's leading English-language publication covering Asian business, economics, politics and culture. Our distinctive brand of award-winning journalism, rooted in more than a century of Nikkei tradition, remains the same.

We didn't take the decision to change our brand name lightly. But in a rapidly-changing media landscape, we felt that our name should reflect our evolution into a digital, 24-hour news organization that is focused on the future.

This evolution is the result of a unique partnership that began shortly after Nikkei acquired the Financial Times in 2015. Since then, FT journalists and engineers have worked closely with their counterparts in Tokyo to enhance our English-language journalism and create a "Digital First" strategy that prioritizes online coverage.

We have also expanded our reporting network. With a newsroom of journalists from more than 15 nations, Nikkei Asia reflects the diversity of the region it covers.

This period of innovation has been accompanied by strong growth. We have reached over 4.5 million readers and built a rapidly-growing base of digital and print subscribers.

To kick off our next chapter as Nikkei Asia, all of our content will be available at no cost on September 30. Through October and November we will hold a series of special Webinars, starting with "The Asian Century in 2040" on October 7.
