Nikkei to lower Advantest's weight in Nikkei 225

Index coefficient to be cut in April after stock tops 10% limit

TOKYO -- Nikkei will reduce the weight of Advantest in the Nikkei 225 from April 1, applying a cap intended to prevent any single constituent from becoming overly dominant.

Based on the Jan. 30 closing price, the reference date for this spring's periodic review, Advantest accounted for 12.8% of the index, surpassing the 10% threshold.

The Nikkei 225 is calculated using each constituent's share price multiplied by a price adjustment factor, which reflects past capital changes. Advantest's current factor of 8 will be revised to 7.2 from April. Further adjustments or removal of the cap will be decided in connection with the semiannual reviews beginning this autumn.

The capping rule was first applied in autumn 2024 to Fast Retailing. It was applied again in spring 2025, lowering the company's factor from 3 to 2.4. No revision will be made this time, as Fast Retailing no longer breaches the limit.
