NEW YORK -- A Nikkei documentary, "The 'megadrought' striking the American Southwest," has won a silver medal from the US International Awards, the organization announced on Wednesday. The movie from the NIKKEI Film video series competed in the environment, ecology & sustainability category.
It is Nikkei's second consecutive silver at the international competition.
The US International Awards is an organization that honors outstanding audiovisual productions from around the world. It goes back more than half a century and receives entries from broadcasters and digital media organizations around the world.
Nikkei's award-winning documentary examines worsening water scarcity in the American Southwest, a phenomenon increasingly driven by climate change amid a broader global water crisis.
Based on an analysis of four decades of data, it combines 3D modeling with footage to visually depict the reality of prolonged drought. On-the-ground reporting underscores the widening impact on people's lives, agriculture and investment in water resources.
The documentary also took home gold from the 2026 World Media Festivals in Germany.
